Prakash Govindan is the co-founder and CTO of Gradiant Corporation. Under his technical leadership, Gradiant has developed a platform of proprietary products that target various problems in industrial water treatment. Prakash also leads all project acquisition and deployment activities in Asia, Middle East, and the South Pacific for Gradiant. Furthermore, Prakash is the leading contributor in establishing corporate offices and research and development facilities as well as leads all subsidiaries and business units in technical aspects. While atMIT, Prakash co-developed the Carrier Gas Extraction (CGE) system which became the flagship product and foundation for Gradiant. Prakash, a holder of more than 75 patents, also invented the company’s SCE system and CFRO technology. He has his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and Masters from IIT Madras. (more…)

Prof. Dr. Jeff Obbard is an environmental scientist, ecologist, environmental engineer, and entrepreneur. He holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science (Chemistry & Microbiology), and a B.Sc. (Honours) in Ecology (1st Class) from the UK. He spent 17 years at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), and has recently returned from Qatar, where he was Director and Professor at the Environmental Science Centre, Qatar University. Councillor of Vancouver City
Tell us about your current role as Councillor in the Vancouver City Council.
I was first elected to city council in 2008 and then re-elected in 2011 and 2014. We are elected to serve the whole city of Vancouver so we have the whole city to think about in our work. And we also get portfolios (projects) from the mayor’s office if we’re in the majority party. So I have quite portfolios but the three that might be most interesting would be – greenest city, renewable energy, and energy generally, and economic development and innovation economy (i.e. digital technology, clean technology).
