The Mapletree Challenge 2022 Grand Final

The top three teams of The Mapletree Challenge 2022 with MOS Low Yen Ling and senior management of SIT and Mapletree.

First launched in 2018, the Mapletree Challenge is a series of programmes that aims to promote entrepreneurship innovation, problem-solving and presentation finesse among SIT undergraduates. By providing a platform for them to present their business ideas, the Challenge hopes to inspire students to become future sustainable innovators.

This year’s Challenge with the theme, Improving Our World through Sustainability and Innovation, saw the participation of 120 SIT students in a series of face-to-face and virtual training and mentorship programmes in the preparation stage of the Challenge. From January to May 2022, these participants attended six masterclasses on personal leadership, value pitching and financial literacy; a forum discussion on entrepreneurship and sustainable innovation by leading young entrepreneurs; as well as small group mentorship from industry experts on their entrepreneurial ideas.

5 May 2022 – Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd (“Mapletree” or “the Group”) and Singapore Institute of Technology (“SIT”) successfully concluded the third edition of The Mapletree Challenge Grand Final. Two teams of SIT students – RADnovation and The Gastronauts – impressed the judges with their sustainable innovation proposals and emerged joint champions among the five finalist teams from SIT. The two winning teams each walked away with a cash prize of $5,000 and the winners’ trophies.

Inaugural BuildTech Asia 2020 Digital Series to accelerate the adoption of Industry 4.0

First virtual exhibition gathers more than 100 local and regional exhibitors to

drive positive transformation of the built environment sector amid the pandemic

The inaugural BuildTech Asia Digital Series will take place on 14 and 15 October 2020 to proliferate the use of smart digital technologies in the built environment sector.

This virtual event will present built environment professionals with opportunities to discover latest technologies at the international building and construction technology expo; gain updates on new trends at the free webinars and tech talks; and meet with regional exhibitors via a unique interactive platform – all from the comfort of their offices or homes. Dr. Teo Ho Pin, former Member of Parliament of Singapore, will be delivering the opening keynote address.

Originally scheduled in March 2020, the ninth edition of the annual expo has been postponed to March 2021 due to COVID-19. However, recognising that transformation of the building and construction industry cannot stop, the organiser is holding the digital series to support the industry in uncovering ways to build their way out of the crisis and well into the future.

The BuildTech Asia Digital Series will showcase the region’s most comprehensive and latest range of construction products, services, smart solutions and technological innovations across the entire building lifecycle. It will present more than 100 global brands across five exhibit profiles: Building Machinery and Equipment; Facilities Management; Productive Technology; Building Materials; Architecture and Quality Finishes.

The showcase will come alive with a Tech Talk Series, a virtual pavilion where selected exhibitors will conduct interactive workshops or demonstrations for their innovations in 20-minute time slots. Delegates can attend the presentations ‘live’ or view the recordings any time afterwards, without having to miss any one that typically happens in a physical exhibition due to conflicting slots.

Industry thought leaders will provide insights on elevating productivity and efficiencies in the new normal of the construction industry in the webinar series.

Highlights include:

· The new norm in construction amid COVID-19 by Dr. Teo Ho Pin

· Key clauses to look out for in PSSCOC contract administration in a post COVID-19 world by the Singapore Institute of Building Limited (SIBL)

· Tackling the biggest cause of project delays by FinalCad South East Asia Pte Ltd

· Greater digitalisation in engineering design by the Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore (ACES)

· Productivity and innovation in construction by the Singapore Contractors Association Limited (SCAL)

· Do stakeholders who manage or supervise Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) need to be competent? By the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF)

· Build it! How women can forge the development of the built environment by the Association of Women In Construction Singapore (AWICS)

Building on BuildTech Asia’s reputation as Asia’s gateway event to the built environment sector, the organiser will roll out an enhanced Business Matching Programme for attendees to expand their in-region contacts. This encompasses the exclusive BuildTech Asia Digital portal that offers a one-stop platform for delegates to network while saving time and costs from cross-country travel and overnight hotel charges.

The event is organised by Sphere Exhibits Pte Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings, and co-organised by SIBL.

Mr Chua Wee Phong, Chairman of Sphere Exhibits said: “The BuildTech Asia 2020 Digital Series is designed to bring exhibitors and delegates to the forefront of technological advancements in a construction industry that is increasingly being shaped by global trends such as digitalisation and Industry 4.0.”

He added: “The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated an urgent and real need for the industry to keep exploring and adopting new ways to enhance productivity in building and construction. Our digital series will give attendees the right solutions, products, services, knowledge and connections to break new grounds in automating, digitalising and transforming their businesses.“

“SIBL is pleased to co-organise the BuildTech Asia 2020 Digital Series with Sphere Exhibits. The event will open up opportunities for building professionals to raise their competency and practice standards and be in the best position to harness new technological advancements. In addition, its innovative business matching approach will go one step beyond conventional exhibitions by facilitating greater interaction between delegates and exhibitors, to enhance opportunities for business deals and collaborations,” said Dr. Sussie Ketit, President of SIBL.
